When should I use P80 grit, and what comes next?
P80 is the starting grit for heavy work: stripping old finish, leveling rough lumber, and erasing deep scratches. Once the surface is flat and the old finish is gone, step up through finer grits. P120 handles most raw-wood smoothing on the way to finish-ready, and P320 is used for the final scuff before a topcoat.
