When to use P80 flap strips
P80 is the workhorse coarse grit: heavy enough to strip paint and take real stock off a profile, controlled enough not to chew up edges the way P60 can on softer species. If a job says “remove the old finish” or “shape it fast,” P80 is usually the right first wheel — and for general refinishing work it is the coarsest most people ever need.
Before and after P80
Coming down from bare-metal stripping or severe damage, start at P60; otherwise open at P80 and step to P100 or P120 next. Never jump from P80 straight to a between-coats grit — the scratch pattern will show under stain.
Fitting these strips
Sets are 28 strips for the re-flappable hub, in 45mm standard or 65mm tall trim — the 45mm trim is slightly stiffer and suits most door and molding work, while 65mm reaches into profiles deeper than about 1.5 inches.
