When to use P180 flap strips
P180 is the crossover grit: the finest most people use on raw wood and the coarsest that belongs on a sealed surface. Between coats it is the grit for lacquer and oil finishes — aggressive enough to level dust nibs and lay down raised grain, gentle enough not to cut through when the flaps are doing the work under light pressure.
Where P180 sits in the sequence
On raw wood, P180 follows P150 for furniture-grade surfaces under clear finishes. On sealed work, P180 opens the between-coats range — step to P240 for later coats and P320 under thin waterborne finishes. The rule from the grit guide: never coarser than P180 on a sealed surface, or you risk cutting straight through a thin coat.
Fitting these strips
28-strip sets for the re-flappable hub, 45mm standard or 65mm tall trim. Many shops dedicate one hub to P180-and-finer for finishing-room work so a stray coarse strip never touches a sealed door.
